masahiko sunami is an experimental Composer_Musician_Media-Artist currently based in Los Angeles, CA. Originally born in Tokyo, Japan and trained as a Classical Clarinetist, Jazz Saxophonist, Ghanaian Drummer, and Hindustani Sarod Player, he mainly performs with synthesizers, computers and custom-built electronics, both in solo and collaborative musical performances. He also has a strong artistic interest in designing installations that create new sonic and visual environments and integrate various media, such as theater, dance, text, and video. Using textures as building blocks of his music, he creates a meditative environment through his compositions. He often challenges listeners' attention spans and listening abilities, to invite them to pay closer attention to the sound that surrounds them. But perhaps more importantly, Masahiko takes great pleasure in creating unique dishes, combining culinary influences from around the world. He holds a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Music Composition_New Media from California Institute of the Arts and Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Music from Brown University. His teachers include Mark Trayle, Morton Subotnick, Tom Erbe, Todd Winkler, Kwaku Kwaakye Obeng, Kobla Ladzekpo, and Rajeev Taranath.
