2006.8.23_ I can't believe that I've been neglecting my website for over a year! It's been a very busy year for me, doing lot of sound engineering work. Recently, I mixed and mastered a CD, "Indonesia Postmodern Vol.1," which is a collection of Indonesian Music recorded in Indonesia. All of the proceeds will go toward the rebuilding of Indonesia Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta (ISI) which suffered a devastating damage by the recent earthquake, and where lot of the music on this CD came from.
I am also engineering a show for Kabbalah Dream Orchestra this coming Monday, Aug. 28, at Temple Beth-Am at 1039 S. La Cienega Blvd, Los Angeles, CA. This is a benefit concert for the city of Safed, Israel, one of four holy cities of Israel which suffered damage from the recent conflict with Hezbollah. I only hope that there is a similar effort to do the same for Lebanese people... Someone recently forwarded me this link for a slideshow of Lebanon which should speak for itself the damages of this nonsensical conflict.
Otherwise please stay tuned for some upcoming shows of my own...

2005.1.25_ Today, may be few hours ago, this website saw its 10,000th visitor. At first, I was like, "hey may be I'm getting famous!" But looking at the statistics carefully, I discovered that 3,200 of those visits were from this month alone, 800 from last month, and before that I was averaging around 200~300 visits per month. It seems that many people are ending up here while searching for "sunami" on google, of course, misspelling a word "tsunami." So while this recent tsunami in Southeast Asia had brought tremendous grief and sorrow to the region, it increased traffic to my website tenfold. Is this a good thing or bad thing?
It also poses another interesting point. Why do everyone in the world uses the word "tsunami"? It's a Japanese word consisting of tsu, meaning port, and nami, a wave, and together describes what is known in English language as a tidal wave. (While my last name, Sunami, has nothing to do with it) Looking up in a dictionary, tidal wave is a "non technical term for a tsunami or a similar wave caused by strong winds and not actually related to the tides." So somehow this Japanese word had gained its position in a scientific world as the official technical term for a wave caused by disturbance under the ocean such as a strong earthquake. Very interesting, but it only raises more questions... If anyone has the answer, please let me know. I'm too curious.
I also found some more stuff. Searching for "sunami" on the internet, it reveals that there are some very interesting stuff named after . . . me!! To name a few, there is a Kennel SUNAMI in Slovakia (I'm sure they are very good), some weird contraption called SUNAMI TURBO NOISE SIMULATOR which "simulates the 'psssst' noise generated from the blow off valve of a turbo-equipped vehicle" (why?), Sunami-hofgebäude an der köchlistrasse 29 in zürich 4 (Sunami yard building on 29 Köchli street in Zürich) which I think is a gallery space, an amazing 1/3 horsepower Sunami Pumps by Aqua UV available for mere $569 (3/4hp model for $599), and www.sunami.com is some web design company based in Andover, MA. I think I will go visit them when I'm in the neighborhood! (lol...)
Anyhow- so if you are here reading this because you wanted to know more about a tsunami, this site probably won't help, but hey, if you are in LA this coming weekend, please come to one of my show! Thank you. |
2005.01.20_ Happy New Year!! To start off the year right, I got a show. Bob's new place, Il Corral is actually few blocks away from mi casa de locos, so hopefully there will be many more of this in the future. Also, this coming Sunday, I will be helping out doing sound for a Tsunami relief benefit concert. Please join us if you can.
